The 106-foot (32-meter) Maitreya Buddha statue sits just below the 14th-century Diskit Monastery in Ladakh’s Nubra Valley. Facing down the Shyok River, the vibrant golden statue was consecrated by the Dalai Lama in 2010 to promote world peace and protect the region. Additionally you see beautiful views of the Nubra Sand Dunes.
